Recovery Fund Awards Another £14,000

TEN groups shared almost £14,000 at the latest Tameside Community Recovery Fund meeting.

The event, which was held at the Together Centre, Birch Lane, Dukinfield, catered for the borough’s east neighbourhood which comprises Stalybridge, Dukinfield and Mossley.

It was opened by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Mike Glover, and both he and the Mayoress, Mrs Anne Gordon, stayed all afternoon and played a full part in proceedings. Around 70 people attended.

The successful bids were: Richmond Park Neighbourhood Watch and Community Group, £1,050 for In Bloom defibrillator; Dukinfield Brass Bands Fund, £1,650, Christmas lights switch-on; The Shed, Dukinfield, £2,000, Men’s Room; Carrbrook Residents Association, 1,500, community outreach; Heyrod Residents Association, £2,000, Project Reform.

Holy Trinity Church, Stalybridge, £2,000, Trinity Tots and Cascade Green Group; Academy HQ, Stalybridge, £1,450, community wellness; Springs Botanical Garden, £250, Brighten up Ambleside; Staly Hill Neighbourhood Watch, £1,000, defibrillator; Stalybridge Town Team, £1,000, town-centre brightening.

The event was organised by Sue Moorcroft and Sharron Power from Tameside Council’s community safety team with support from Jonathan King and Sian Goodwin from Action Together. Terry Finn was master of ceremonies. Together Centre volunteers were invaluable in making the day a success.

Cllr Vimal Choksi, Tameside Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted that things went so well and that the community recovery fund was able to help some more very deserving groups, many of which were meeting for the first time since covid restrictions were lifted.

“To see them working together was really heartwarming. Their interaction and offers to help with each other’s projects gave the whole day a fantastic atmosphere.”

The final event, dealing with Tameside’s south neighbourhood (Hyde and Longdendale), takes place at St Barnabas’s Church, Hattersley Road East, Hattersley, on Saturday, June 18 (noon to 4pm). Everyone’s welcome.
